The Recognition You Deserve, Scene #01
When Claire's stepfather Gavin (played by Ryan Driller) unexpectedly returns home early from an award dinner, she is taken aback. In addition to arriving home early, his wife Tara (played by Audrey Madison) is also missing. With a sour expression on his face, Gavin describes how Tara spoilt the entire evening and made him feel so embarrassed that he had to leave. He was meant to be the focus of this event, but Tara would have none of it. They arrived late because she made a jewelry stop on the way, and she even gave business cards to all of Gavin's coworkers. However, her insistence to leave the gathering early was the straw that broke the camel's back. Gavin just couldn't understand why he would leave a celebration in his honor before everyone else. It is quite impolite. Tara, though, did not listen. Gavin was left feeling resentful and alone when she threw a fit and walked out in front of everyone. What Tara has heard has left her perplexed. Tara is Claire's biological mother, but Claire has never liked the way Tara handles Gavin. Tara shows him less respect than he deserves; he's a caring, wise, and compassionate man. Claire appears to have an epiphany. Why don't they celebrate all of Gavin's accomplishments together at a "mini gala" at home? She is aware that spending time with his stepdaughter isn't as glamorous as being the star of an important gala, but she hopes they can still have some fun and turn Gavin's night into something truly memorable. They perform a number of "rituals" that would have taken place at the gala, including slow-dancing together and offering a "toast" to Gavin. But despite themselves, they both become more and more aroused as they dance. Though they are aware that it is wrong, His powerful, muscular arms provide her comfort, and she looks up to him. When it becomes evident that they are experiencing the same emotions, Claire offers to express to Gavin how much she values him.
